Vol. 202 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ferbane (Offaly) Housing Shortage.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that at least twenty new houses are urgently required to be built in Ferbane, County Offaly; and if he will take steps to remedy the existing housing shortage in the town in view of the increased population, and of the number of applicants for housing accommodation.

The housing authority has not yet furnished to me the results of a survey of unfit housing which I requested in 1960. The assessment of needs, including those revealed by such surveys, and the formulation of building proposals to meet these needs, are functions of the housing authority concerned. If the facts are as represented by the Deputy, I would welcome the early initiation of building proposals by the housing authority.
