Vol. 202 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Water and Sewerage Schemes.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that work on the Moyvane water and sewerage schemes, County Kerry, which were started over three years ago, is not yet completed; and that there is great dissatisfaction among the local residents on account of the long delay; if so, if the consulting engineer and the county council officials are satisfied with the supply of water available; and what is the cause of the delay in completing the schemes.

I am not so aware. I am informed that both schemes for Moyvane have been completed and are now in operation.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that work on the sewerage scheme at Ardfert, County Kerry, has been under way for some months past; and that, so far, there is no prospect of providing a piped water supply for the district; and, if so, if the consulting engineer and county council officials are satisfied that there will be a piped water supply available immediately on completion of the sewerage scheme.

I am aware that work on the Ardfert sewerage scheme has been in progress for some time. There is an existing water supply in Ardfert which, I am informed by the council, will enable the sewerage scheme to operate on a temporary basis pending the provision of Ardfert regional water supply scheme. Contract documents for the latter scheme have been approved and the council is at present negotiating for the acquisition of the necessary lands.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which his Department received from Kerry County Council the contract documents in connection with the proposed regional water supply scheme for Castleisland; whether he has as yet completed his consideration of these documents; and at what date he expects to communicate his decision to the council.

The documents in question were received in my Department on the 11th, and were sanctioned on 29th of April last.
