Vol. 203 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retail Turnover Tax.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has been asked by the Irish Newsagents, Booksellers and Stationers Association and by RGDATA to receive deputations regarding the proposed turnover tax; and if he will state his reply to these requests.

I have not so far been requested by the Irish Newsagents, Booksellers and Stationers Association or by RGDATA to receive deputations regarding the proposed turnover tax. I have had meetings with some important trading groups and I think that they have been valuable in helping to remove misunderstandings about the tax. If, therefore, the associations to which the Deputy refers wish to have discussions about the tax, I shall be very glad to make the necessary arrangements.

22.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received objections made by trading bodies, associations and similar groups to the recent turnover tax proposals; and, if so, what are the names of such groups or associations.

A number of bodies have made representations regarding the turnover tax. I do not consider it desirable to give their names.
