Vol. 203 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax Yields.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the estimated and (b) the actual tax yield for the year 1962-63 of (i) 1d. on a pint of beer, (ii) 2d. on a glass of spirits, and (iii) 2d. on a standard size packet of cigarettes.

The answer is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

NOTE: The figures shown represent yields derived from each segment of the main rates of duty corresponding to the equivalents indicated by the Deputy. The figures in column (2) are based on the Budget estimates (as adjusted in June, 1962, in the case of tobacco) of the total quantities of the commodities which would be retained for home use during the year 1962-63. The figures in column (3) are based on the actual quantities retained for home use during 1962-63.
