Vol. 203 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limits.

67.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider taking up with the responsible authorities the question of increasing the speed limit of 30 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour through (1) the village of Grange, County Sligo, and (2) Pearse Road, Sligo, from the borough boundary on the Collooney Road to Teeling Street, as this downhill stretch of road, which covers a distance of 1½ miles, is of such a nature as to be suitable for safe driving at a speed exceeding the present 30 miles per hour limit.

The existing speed limit on these roads is that recommended by the technical committee for County Sligo and approved by the county council. On the general question of the review of the speed limits I would refer the Deputy to my replies to previous questions on this matter and in particular to my replies to Deputy M.J. O'Higgins on 21st February last, Deputy Treacy on 8th May and Deputy Clinton on 16th May.

Will the Minister try to do something about having existing speed limits adhered to?
