Vol. 203 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Malicious Injuries Compensation.

97.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he has yet completed his examination of the Report of the Interdepartmental Committee established in 1960 to consider the law relating to payment of compensation for malicious injuries; and whether amending legislation may be expected in this regard.

The Report of the Interdepartmental Committee on Malicious Injuries is a comprehensive one and raises a number of important and fundamental issues regarding both injury to the person and injury to property. As the recommendations of the Committee involve substantial changes in the law which would affect the community generally, the report requires detailed and careful examination. I have not yet completed this examination.
