Vol. 203 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Structural Defects in Dublin Houses.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the numerous complaints made by occupiers of houses in respect of which loans have been granted under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts by Dublin Corporation in regard to structural and other defects which have developed after taking up residence; and if he will arrange for closer supervision of workmanship and materials used in such cases in the future.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ensure that only fully seasoned timber is used in future in houses in respect of which loans under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts are granted by Dublin Corporation.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to answer Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together. My responsibility under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts is confined to sanctioning the borrowing of such amounts as are required from time to time to finance the operations of the local authority under the Acts. I understand that no complaints as to major structural defects are received by the Dublin Corporation and that where minor complaints are made, the defects are invariably made good. I would suggest that the Deputy might apprise the Corporation of any grounds for complaint that may have come to his notice.
