Vol. 203 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bar Council Contribution to Servicing of Four Courts.

13.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance whether the General Council of the Bar of Ireland pays an annual contribution towards the cost of the central heating, window cleaning, electric lighting and other servicing of the portion of the Four Courts occupied by them; if so, how much; and, if not, why.

At present no payment is being made by the General Council of the Bar of Ireland in respect of the services mentioned as the terms of the Council's occupancy of the Law Library, etc., have not yet been finally agreed. As I stated in reply to a question by the Deputy on 14th May, 1963, it is the intention that the matter shall be covered by a licence which will provide for the payment by the Council of an annual contribution towards the cost of services. So far the draft licence has not been accepted by the council but the matter is being pursued. I might add that it is intended that the payment for the services will have retrospective effect.
