Vol. 203 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exchequer Revenue.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of the years 1961-62 and 1962-63, and the estimate for 1963-64, Exchequer revenue under the following heads: (a) tobacco, (b) beer, spirits and wine, (c) motor car parts, etc., (d) betting, (e) other taxes on expenditure, (f) taxes on personal incomes, and (g) taxes paid by companies.

The information relating to the duties under headings (a) to (e) of the question is contained in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report. As regards taxes on personal incomes and taxes paid by companies, I should point out that both individuals and companies pay income tax but that the statistics relating to that tax are not compiled in such a manner as would indicate the amounts paid by different classes of taxpayers. In connection with the preparation of national income figures, however, particulars of total taxes on incomes and estimates of taxes on personal incomes are published in the report National Income and Expenditure. Tables A.5 and A.15 of the 1961 report, which is the latest one available, give figures for the years 1953 to 1961, inclusive. Estimates of taxes paid by companies can be derived by subtracting taxes on personal incomes from total taxes on incomes.

It should be noted that for national income purposes taxes on personal incomes include contributions to social insurance.

Copies of National Income and Expenditure, 1961, are in the Library.
