asked the Minister for Finance if he can state what countries in Western Europe, other than Sweden and Norway, operate a sales tax at retail level.

Sales taxes at retail level operate in Austria, France, Western Germany, Italy and Luxembourg, as well as in Sweden and Norway, and it is understood that a turnover tax affecting retail sales is proposed for introduction in Finland with effect from 1st July, 1963.
