Vol. 203 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Four Courts Notices.

4.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance why notices bearing the words "ná caith tobac anso—smoking strictly prohibited" were removed from the Central Hall of the Four Courts about a year ago, and replaced with ashtrays; and if it is proposed to make like changes in other parts of the Four Courts building, particularly in those sections where the common practice is for people to smoke, notwithstanding prohibitory notices.

I am advised that the notices prohibiting smoking in the Central Hall of the Four Courts building were removed as it was considered that because of the size of the Hall and the number of persons usually present smoking was not objectionable. The Department of Justice, which has been consulted, has indicated that it is not proposed to remove the notices prohibiting smoking which are still displayed in other parts of the building.
