Vol. 203 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Free Dentures Scheme.

10.

asked the Minister for Health when a scheme of free dentures for those in the lower income group will be introduced by the Wexford County Council.

The Health Authority's dental services in County Wexford is provided by two wholetime dentists and four part-time dentists employed on a sessional basis. In accordance with accepted policy the services of these dentists are concentrated mainly on the provision of services for children. As it has been accepted that the dental services, including the provision of dentures, for adults in the lower income group is inadequate, I approved in March last the Health Authority's proposal to appoint a third wholetime dentist for the provision of dental services for this group. The Health Authority are taking steps to fill this vacancy.

What steps have, in fact, been taken?

The normal ones, I assume.

What are they?

To communicate with the Local Appointments Commission.

Have they done that?

I assume so.

The Minister does not know?

I am not au fait with every action of a health authority.
