Vol. 204 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South-West Cork Old Age Pensions.

19.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of applicants for old age pensions (a) rejected and (b) first granted in South-West Cork from 1960 to 1st June, 1963.

Statistics in respect of old age pensions are kept in respect of counties and county boroughs only. From January, 1961 when contributory old age pensions were introduced to 31st May, 1963, 3,936 claims from persons in County Cork, excluding Cork city, were allowed and 948 claims were rejected. The corresponding information in respect of non-contributory old age pensions is not available at the headquarters of the Department and it is necessary to obtain it from the local social welfare officers. This is being done and I will have the particulars sent to the Deputy as soon as possible.
