Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Wexford Rivers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to state whether or not drainage of the Asally river, Killinick, County Wexford will be undertaken this year.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) the present position of the proposals regarding the Asally Drainage Scheme, County Wexford; (2) when it is intended to commence work; (3) the areas in which the scheme will have the most beneficial effect; (4) the number of local men likely to be employed; and (5) how long it will take to complete the scheme.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 7 and 8 together.

I expect to be in a position to announce a decision with regard to the Asally River within the next three weeks and I will then communicate with the Deputies.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) the present position of the proposals regarding the Owenavarragh Drainage Scheme, County Wexford; (2) when it is intended to display the plans locally; (3) how soon thereafter the work will commence; (4) the area in which the scheme will have the most beneficial effect; (5) whether the work will be carried out by the Office of Public Works or by a contractor; (6) the number of local men likely to be employed, and (7) how long it will take to complete the scheme.

The engineering investigation of this catchment has been completed and it is hoped shortly to take a decision on the preparation of a scheme. It is yet too early to give the detailed information sought by the Deputy.
