Vol. 204 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of State Service.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will raise the salary ceiling and means test applicable to those in State employment, who hold pre-Truce service medals, for the purpose of granting extensions in the State service after they have reached sixty-five years.

No salary ceiling is applied to officers who hold pre-Truce service medals in connection with their retention in the civil service after the normal retiring age. Retention is approved in the case of those officers if the pension or pensions which they would receive, other than military service pensions, disability pensions and social welfare payments, would not exceed the limit specified in the regulations governing the retention beyond the age limit of civil servants in this category.

I do not propose to raise this limit in the near future.

Would the Minister say what is the limit?
