asked the Minister for Lands if his attention has been drawn to the recent sale of two large farms, of roughly 400 acres each, in the Midlands; if the farms have been sold to nationals or non-nationals; and if any move was made by the Land Commission to acquire those lands with a view to dividing them into forty or fifty acre farms for Irishmen.

I presume the Deputy is referring to two properties in the Mullingar district which, I am informed, were sold very recently by Senator L'Estrange and Messrs. Scallan Bros. to a non-national. These lands are currently the subject of investigation by the Land Commission. I should add that efforts by the Land Commission in recent years to purchase one of these properties on a voluntary basis were unsuccessful.
