Vol. 204 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oral Irish Examination.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that there is grave disquiet on the part of national teachers, because of the decision to defer the final oral Irish examination for a period of five years after qualification; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

As newly qualified national teachers may take the proficiency test in oral Irish at any time during the five year period after entering the teaching service the Deputy's question is based on an incorrect premise.

Am I to take it, then, that these people could obtain their permanency by taking their oral proficiency test immediately on leaving the training college?

That completely satisfies me.
