Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing Needs.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated housing needs in each dispensary area of the administrative county of Dublin; and what steps the county council are taking to meet the urgent need in each area.

Information in the form sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department.

In a report of 5th July last, the Assistant City and County Manager informed the Dublin Council Council that there were then 1,006 applications for rehousing on hands, of which 478 would qualify for full subsidy. He also indicated that the results of the housing survey showed that there were 1.083 unfit houses, of which 591 were incapable of being made fit at reasonable expense.

In an addendum to the report, in the form of a tabular statement, a copy of which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report, the Manager set out details of the housing needs in various areas in the county and of the steps which were being taken to meet those needs.

Following is the statement:

Is the Minister satisfied that adequate steps have been taken by the County Manager to meet the crisis situation in County Dublin?

This is a matter which, as the House is aware, has been under discussion at great length today and yesterday, and no doubt the discussion will continue for some days to come. I would prefer to reserve my remarks for my reply on that debate as I would prefer to go into it much more fully than I may do on this occasion
