Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Vested Cottages.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of appeals on hands from tenants of labourers' cottages in County Kildare in respect of repairs to cottages which they have vested; and when it is hoped to have these cottages inspected with a view to determining what repairs are necessary.

There are 51 appeals under Section 18 of the Labourers Act, 1936, from tenant purchasers in County Kildare awaiting or under consideration in my Department. Twentyone are in the final stages and will be determined shortly. The remaining 30 are at various stages of consideration prior to inspection. In these cases, it is not possible to say precisely when the cottages will be inspected and the appeals determined, but there will be no avoidable delay in having this done.

Will the Minister say whether the residue is likely to be cleared in the next couple of months?

I would hope so.
