Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drunken Driving Tests.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the Government have considered further specific aspects of the recommendations contained in the Report of the Commission on Driving While Under the Influence of Drink or a Drug, in particular whether a blood alcohol level of 125 mg. should be taken as absolute proof of the commission of an offence related to drink and driving; and, if so, with what result.

51.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Local Government when he hopes to be in a position to introduce the necessary legislation required to validate drinking-while-driving tests.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

I have invited the public to submit to me, before 30th of next month, their views on the recommendations made by the Commission. When these views have been considered a Bill will be prepared to implement such decisions as the Government may then take. I hope to introduce the necessary legislation as early as possible next year.
