Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North County Dublin Road.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that proposals for by-passing North County Dublin population centres, such as Swords, are considered highly undesirable by residents; and if he will direct that road building will be designed along lines acceptable to the people of these areas.

I am aware that road proposals involving the by-passing of population centres are met with very mixed feelings, particularly by those who conduct business in these centres. While the wishes of the public are kept in mind the fact is that the roads must be planned and constructed primarily to meet the increasing needs of present-day traffic. I would not be prepared to issue a direction on the lines indicated by the Deputy.
