Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Punishment of Swinford (Mayo) School Pupil.

111.

asked the Minister for Education whether the national teacher at Swinford national school, County Mayo, against whom a court decree was given for excessive punishment of a pupil, has refused to supply to the parents the marks needed by the pupil for his further education; and what action he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

112.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is a fact that the school manager of Swinford national school, County Mayo has asked the parents of Val Rooney, Station Road, Swinford who recently won a court action against Mr. T. Walsh, NT, for assault, that they should sign a document to be read at Masses admitting that they were wrong in taking the action as a condition precedent to his giving the boy the necessary reference for admission to the technical school.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I intend taking Questions Nos. 111 and 112 together.

I am having inquiries made in regard to the matters raised by the Deputy. If he should repeat his question in about a fortnight's time, I would hope to be able then to reply to them.
