Vol. 205 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Scheme for Social Welfare Officers.

14.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has given special consideration to the conditions of employment and long service of officers in his Department known as agents of national health insurance; and if, in view of the limited number of such officers, he will arrange an immediate scheme to give effect to a reasonable pension for such persons on retirement, particularly having regard to their long years of faithful service.

As I stated in reply to a similar question on 16th July, 1963, there are 264 posts of agents in my Department, of which 43 posts in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford are pensionable. The remaining 221 posts of local agent (part-time) covering the rest of the country are non-pensionable.It is not proposed to have the posts of local agent (part-time) made pensionable.
