Vol. 205 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Navan Social Welfare Office.

15.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the hardship caused by the closing of the social welfare office in Navan; if, having regard thereto, he will have it reopened without any delay; and if he will state the cost of operating the office and the cost of any alternative arrangements.

In my reply to a similar question on Thursday last, about the closing of the social welfare officer station at Gort, I explained the circumstances which led to the closing of that and a number of other social welfare officer stations. These circumstances also apply to the closing of the station at Navan.

It is not practicable to give costings for the operation of a single social welfare officer's area before and after reorganisation, but it is expected that a total saving in the region of £50,000 a year will be achieved by the reorganisation.
