Vol. 205 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hague Convention Recommendation.

27.

asked the Minister for Justice what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Recommendation 373 on the Hague Convention on the Conflicts of Laws relating to the Form of Testamentary Dispositions which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 20th September, 1963; and what action the Government have taken, or contemplate taking, on it.

As the Deputy may be aware, I referred to this Convention in the course of the address which I delivered last January to the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on the subject matter of the future legal programme of the Council. I indicated on that occasion that this country was considering acceding to the Convention.I am now happy to say that I have obtained Government approval for the preparation of a comprehensive Administration of Estates and Wills Bill which will provide, inter alia, for the necessary amendments of the law to enable this country to accede to the Convention. I hope to be in a position to bring the Bill before the Oireachtas next year.
