Vol. 205 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Game Development Grants.

55.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the failure of his Department to pay grants for game development since 31st March is bringing the game movement into disrepute, inasmuch as game councils are unable to meet their financial commitments to traders and bankers; and, if so, what action he proposes to take to remedy the matter.

56.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the fact that some game councils in pursuance of their schemes have involved themselves in heavy expenditure since 31st March this year, he will indicate to these councils what amount of grant they are likely to receive; and when they may expect to receive it.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 55 and 56 together.

This year, difficulty in making the allocation of the voted provision has arisen, because of delay on the part of some game councils in lodging schemes with my Department. Not all schemes have yet been received. Approximately one-third of the schemes already lodged were only received within the past fortnight. Consultations with nationally organised interested bodies are pending as a matter of urgency and I hope to announce the over-all allocation of grants next week.

The remaining Questions for oral answer will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
