Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchases for Processing Factories.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands the total amount of fish purchased from fishermen by the factories at Killybegs, County Donegal and at Galway in each of the past six months, the average price per cwt. in each month, and the grand total of the amount paid for fish by the foregoing factories.

The only relevant figures readily available from An Bord Iascaigh Mhara are totals for the six months to the end of September during which the quantities of fish purchased for the factories were—

Killybegs—

7,859½ cwt. at cost of £7,842.

Galway—

4,534 cwt. at cost of £6,828.

As sixteen different varieties of fish were purchased in varying quantities for each factory, the overall average prices per cwt., which works out at 19s. 11½d. for Killybegs and 30s. 1½d. for Galway, are not comparable.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary indicate whether all fish landed was accepted at Galway?

That is a separate question.

Yes, it was.

At the moment there are 40 cases lying on the doorstep, not accepted, and would the Parliamentary Secretary inquire into it?

I am fully aware of the situation.

And, then, he stands up in the House and says none was not accepted.
