Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Commemorative Stamps.

21.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of commemorative stamps it is proposed to issue during the coming twelve months, and their nature.

22.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number and themes of commemorative stamps which will be issued for the year 1964.

23.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in accordance with the wish of the United Nations Organisation, he will issue a special postage stamp to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights on 10th December next, and arrange for special cancellation of such stamps on that day.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 21, 22 and 23 together.

As already announced a special stamp to commemorate the centenary of the founding of the International Red Cross will be issued on 2nd December next. The issue about the same time of a stamp to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights is not practicable.

It is proposed to issue three special stamps in 1964 on the following themes:— the bi-centenary of the birth of Wolfe Tone, the Irish Pavilion and Exhibit at the New York World Fair opening in April, 1964, and the Conference of European Postal and Telecommunications Administrations.

The Minister is not going to print one for the subpostmasters?

Would the Minister consider deleting the word "Éire" from the stamps and substituting the word "Republic of Ireland"?

I shall have a look into that.
