Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Primary School Pupils.

31.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Education whether parents may transfer their children from one primary school to another; or whether there are any Departmental regulations governing the matter, and, if so, their nature.

Such transfers of pupils are governed by the provisions of Section 6 (4) of the School Attendance Act, 1926.

Has the Minister any objection to elaborating on that reply?

In what way?

I want the Minister to tell the House, for instance, in connection with those regulations, whether parents have the right to transfer their children from one primary school to an adjoining school and whether, if they are refused such permission, they have the right of appeal?

The Deputy asked if there were any regulations governing the matter. The Minister answered that. The Deputy is now enlarging on the question.

The Minister referred me to the Departmental regulations.Would he oblige in this matter by giving a bit more information in general, if he has it available?

That is an enlargement of the question.

May I take it from the Minister that he is not trying to evade giving an answer?

I am not. All the information is in the School Attendance Act, 1936, Section 6, subsection (4).

Would the Minister make a copy of that available to me before leaving this evening?

I am sure the Deputy will get it in the Library.

A copy to take with me.

Very well.
