Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dangers of Cigarette Smoking.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received any report of a recent survey into juvenile smoking carried out by the Cork Health Authority; and if, in view of the alarming trends therein disclosed, it is his intention to introduce any measures by which school children will be instructed, as part of the curriculum, in regard to the dangers to health involved in smoking.

I have seen a copy of the report in question. The introduction of such measures as may be deemed necessary in the interest of children's health is a matter primarily for the Minister for Health.

Leaflets published by the Department of Health warning children of the dangers of smoking have, with my Department's co-operation, been distributed to schools in 1959 and again early this year.
