Mr. O.J. Flanagan

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the present rates of pay of (1) prison officers of all grades in the employment of his Department, and (2) all grades and ranks of the Garda Síochána.

The present rates of pay of prison officers, particulars of which are shown in the Appendix to Vote 25 in the current Book of Estimates, are:

Governors:
Mountjoy	£1,495×45—£1,870 per annum
St. Patrick's	£1,230×35—£1,575 per annum
Portlaoise	£1,230×30—£1,495 per annum
Limerick	£1,230×30—£1,425 per annum
Deputy Governor	£1,065×27—£1,200 per annum
Foreman of Works	£880×23£1,020 per annum

Chief Artisan I	297/-×6/3 —309/6 per week
Chief Artisan II	281/-×6/3 —293/6 per week

The present rates of pay of members of the Garda Síochána are contained in the Garda Síochána Pay Order, 1963 (S. I. No. 166 of 1963) and Garda Síochána Pay (No. 2) Order, 1963 (S. I. No. 222 of 1963). They are as follows:—
