Vol. 205 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Parking Offences.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of offences under the recent Traffic (Parking) Bye-laws which have been committed since the coming into operation of these bye-laws in the Dublin Metropolitan area for parking a vehicle (a) at a place prohibited, (b) at a time prohibited, (c) for a duration of time prohibited, and (d) in a manner prohibited.

I assume that the question relates to the bye-laws that came into operation on 1st April last.

The total number of parking offences in Dublin since then in respect of which notices were issued under the so-called "fines-on-the-spot" scheme was 27,580 and the number of summonses applied for where the offender was not given the option of a "fine-on-the-spot" was 556. Both figures relate to the period ending on 4th November.

No sub-division of these figures is available.

As with all summary offences, Garda records relate only to the number in respect of which action was taken. No figure could be given of the number of such offences committed.
