Vol. 205 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Longford County Surgeon.

11.

asked the Minister for Health what is the present position regarding the filling of the vacant post as county surgeon for Longford.

The present arrangements for the carrying out of the duties of county surgeon, by a person who is not resident in the county and who can only give part-time service, are not regarded as wholly satisfactory and the local authority have for some time been seeking to fill the post on a whole-time basis. I understand that a candidate has now been selected and has been offered the appointment.

The question of filling the vacancy on a permanent basis is linked with the future organisation of a hospital service catering for Longford patients.
