Vol. 205 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Clogheen (Tipperary) Public Health Nurse.

12.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that one of the public health nurses in Clogheen, County Tipperary, has recently had her employment terminated after thirteen years of service for the people of the district; and whether, in view of her record and of the difficulty inherent in the complete covering of the mountainous district involved by the one remaining nurse, he will take steps to have the nurse in question reinstated.

I am aware that, following a review of their outdoor nursing and domiciliary midwifery services, the Health Authority decided that these services in Clogheen dispensary district could be covered adequately by the permanent public health nurse serving there and terminated the appointment of a temporary officer as from 30th September last.

I would not feel justified in approaching the authority to reconsider their decision. I understand, however, that they have given alternative temporary nursing employment to the nurse concerned as from the 4th of this month. This particular nurse, being married, is not eligible for permanent employment.
