Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of the period since 1st July last the purpose and costs of all trips abroad made by Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and the Attorney General, including the cost of all accompanying civil servants and entertainment.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Purpose of Journey

Cost to Public Funds including entertainments expenses and travel and subsistence expenses of accompanying Civil Servants

Taoiseach

Official visit to the United States of America on the invitation of President Kennedy.

Minister for External Affairs

(i) Member of Special Mission attending Coronation of His Holiness Pope Paul VI.—Rome.

(ii) Attendance at obsequies of the late Archbishop O'Hara in London.

(iii) Attendance at 18th Session of General Assembly of United Nations in New York.

The expenditure incurred on the visit of the Minister was £930. The Minister was accompanied by five officials of his Department and as the Session is still in progress it is not possible to indicate the total cost.

Minister for Industry and Commerce.

Visit to New York for the purpose of export promotion and industrial development.

£250 estimated

Visit to London to address the Corkmen's Association, London.

OECD Ministerial Conference on Science Policy.

Minister for Justice

Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany with a view to discussions in relation to particular aspects of the legal systems of both countries.
