Vol. 205 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Housing Loans.

39.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give details of the revised scheme for the provision of loans by the Land Commission to persons erecting new houses which qualify for grants from the Department of Local Government; and whether loans will also be made available to persons reconstructing their farmhouses who qualify for reconstruction grants from the Department of Local Government.

The details requested are as follows:—

The maximum housing loan available through the Land Commission to supplement the State and local authority grants is being increased immediately from £200 to £500 irrespective of rateable valuation. Loans will be available for new dwelling houses and for reconstruction works. The loan will be repayable by long term annuity, under the Land Acts, consolidated with applicants' existing annuity. The interest rate will be related to the prevailing Government borrowing rate.

Would the Minister let the members of the House have a copy of the proposed new scheme?

He need not. I will give the Deputy a copy of the Fine Gael policy.

Have you got one?

It covers that. It is published.

Would the Minister answer my question?

I will give the Deputy a copy of this scheme if he so requires.

Thank you very much.
