Vol. 205 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Lay Commissioners.

40.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Lands whether the lay commissioners may be removed from office; and, if so, by whom and for what specific reasons; and if he will cite the statutory authority under which this power may be exercised.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes". The statutory authority is in section 28 of the Purchase of Land Act, 1891 as amended by section 4 of the Land Law (Commission) Act, 1923. The statutory reasons are "inability or misbehaviour".Removal is subject to Order of the Government to be laid before the Oireachtas.
