Vol. 206 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Terenure (Dublin) School Accommodation.

42.

asked the Minister for Education the number of pupils in each class in Terenure boys' national school, Dublin; and if, having regard to the serious overcrowding therein, he will have early steps taken to achieve the situation of building new schools and to provide an extension to the present school.

43.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that some pupils in Terenure boys' national school have to kneel on the floor when writing, owing to the fact that the number of desks in the schools is inadequate to cope with the large number of pupils; and if he will have additional desks provided immediately.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together.

I am aware that there is overcrowding in the Terenure boys' national school. I have not, however, details of the day to day attendance.

My Department has approved of the erection of a new boys' and girls' school to serve the Wainsfort-Fortfield-Templeogue districts which when erected will relieve the overcrowding at the Terenure boys' national school. The provision of temporary prefabricated classrooms at the school pending the erection of the proposed new school is at present receiving urgent attention.

The question of providing additional seating accommodation at the existing school is also receiving attention.
