Vol. 206 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fireworks Displays.

62.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether, having regard to the existing state of the law which prohibits under penalty fireworks displays in any public place, he will introduce legislation to permit properly conducted fireworks displays with appropriate safety precautions under licence.

The question appears to be based on a misunderstanding. The present practice, which has obtained without interruption since 1948 when restrictions on the importation of fireworks were introduced, is to permit the importation of fireworks for properly organised public displays.
