Vol. 206 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire Purchase of Motor Vehicles.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in order to protect bona fide purchases for value, he will insist that, in all hire-purchase transactions relating to motor vehicles, an entry shall be made in the registration book disclosing the hire-purchase company's interest in the vehicle.

Arrangements on the lines suggested by the Deputy are not proposed. In any case where the purchaser of a motor vehicle wishes to satisfy himself as to whether the vehicle is subject to hire purchase, he can already do so for a fee of 5/- through a non-profit-making agency which is maintained for the purpose by hire-purchase firms.
