Vol. 206 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Walkinstown (Dublin) Lighting and Traffic Accidents.

22.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will have steps taken to improve the public lighting at Walkinstown Cross, Dublin, pending development of the site, having regard to its particularly dangerous condition at night-time at present.

23.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of traffic accidents at Walkinstown Cross, Dublin in each of the last five years; and when work will commence on the redevelopment of the Cross to make it safe.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 22 and 23 together.

I understand that the number of accidents at Walkinstown Cross Roads in each of the last five calendar years was as follows:

1958

7

1959

3

1960

8

1961

3

1962

6

Of the 27 cases, none was fatal, while 23 were cases of material damage without serious bodily injury.

As regards the improvement of the junction, I would refer the Deputy to my reply on 24th October, 1963, to a previous question on the subject. I am informed by the Dublin County Council that additional lighting was provided at the Cross last year.
