asked the Minister for Lands the amount of land afforested by private growers to date in the present financial year.

The planting season of any financial year runs approximately from 1st November to 31st March, and there is no particular date by which applications for grants must be made.

In the period from 1st April, 1963, to date applications have been received for grants in respect of the planting of 930 acres.

The planting season in any financial year runs approximately from 1st November to 31st March, and statistics are not available until well into the following year. The programme for the current year is 25,000 acres.

Could the Minister give me any idea of the amount of State afforestation to date within the period asked ?

Speaking from recollection, it is about 25,700 acres over the past financial year.
