Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Five-day Week.

9.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance whether discussions are taking place with various Civil Service Associations regarding claims for the introduction of a five-day week, and, if so, the nature thereof.

Discussions under the scheme of conciliation and arbitration for the Civil Service of various claims for the introduction of a five-day week for the Service are in progress. The original claim entered before the General Council was for a five-day week without any reduction in total weekly hours of work. This claim was subsequently revised to one for a five-day week on the basis that the additional time to be worked on the five days should be limited to such amounts as would be necessary to maintain present weekly output without extra cost.
