Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Aid for School Building and Equipment.

35.

asked the Minister for Education whether the statement in the World Survey of Education III (UNESCO 1962) that no State aid is provided for the building and equipment of schools is correct.

36.

asked the Minister for Education whether the reported statement regarding building grants for secondary schools and financial aid given to such schools as capitation grants included building costs.

A Cheann Comhairle, I propose, with your permission, to take Questions Nos. 35 and 36 together. While no direct grants in respect of building are given to the conductors of secondary schools, the capitation and other grants payable to them contain an element in respect of capital costs.

Is there not a contribution to certain building of science laboratories in secondary schools?

There is capital provided for equipment but not for building.
