*The attendance at Vocational Schools includes fulltime day students, part-time day students and part-time evening students and it is not possible to state what proportion of the total expenditure is devoted to day students.

85.

asked the Minister for Education what percentage of the total expenditure on technical education (i) is provided by the State and (ii) is spent on bona fide day pupils.

In the financial year 1962/63, State grants to vocational education committees represented sixty-four per cent of the total expenditure of these committees.

The reflection on vocational schools which is contained in the second part of the Deputy's question cannot be accepted. There are no pupils attending vocational schools who could be described as not being bona fide.

86.

asked the Minister for Education the amount contributed by local authorities towards technical education.

Vocational education comprises continuation education and technical education, and there is no break-down of the expenditure of vocational education committees as between these two branches of their educational activities, nor would such a break-down be feasible.

The total annual local contribution of local authorities to vocational education committees in the financial year 1962/63 amounted to £898,057.
