Vol. 206 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Roscommon Farm.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the Giblin farm situated in the townland of Aughgower, Castlecoole, Roscommon, for division amongst deserving local small farmers.

The Land Commission are having inquiries made regarding this 185 acre farm but until these inquiries are completed, it is not possible to forecast the outcome.

Is the Minister aware that these lands have been set for quite a number of years, and would he indicate whether the Land Commission have made any attempt to investigate the position over the years?

I am aware of the fact that these lands have been let, and in connection with my policy directive, the Land Commission have in fact taken action. What I have told the Deputy is that until the inquiries are completed in accordance with the existing law, it is not possible to say what ultimate action will be taken.
