Vol. 206 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Lissadell Estate.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission intend to proceed with the acquisition or purchase of the Lissadell Estate.

The position regarding this estate is unchanged since my reply to a question by Deputy Gilhawley on 21st ultimo, to which I would refer the Deputy.

In view of the fact that the estate belongs to the heirs and descendants of the Countess Markievicz may I ask the Minister if he will take every precaution to see that their wishes in regard to the disposal of the estate are consulted?

That is impinging on a court case and I ruled that out before. The only question is whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the estate.

In any event, it has nothing whatever to do with me, as the Deputy well knows.

Is it not a fact that there is in being an inter-Departmental conspiracy to conceal the fact from the public that this estate has been in fact filched over the years by certain persons who were to supervise——

That, again, is referring to a case that is sub judice.

That is absolute rubbish.

The Deputy is carrying on a campaign here for his own purposes.

It is a scandalous statement. The heirs and descendants of the Countess Markievicz——

I would be far more concerned about any relations of the Countess Markievicz than the Deputy or any of his antecedents.

Are you able to look after them?
