Vol. 206 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Employees in Employment Exchanges.

30.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the maximum age limit for temporary employees in employment exchanges; whether this age limit has been altered recently, and, if so, if he will state the reasons why.

It is not clear from the question whether the Deputy is referring to an age limit for recruitment or retirement.

The position regarding recruitment is that prior to February, 1963, the age limit normally applied was 50 years. In February, 1963, however, the age limit was raised to 65 years. This was the result of a review of the position following an undertaking given in the Dáil on the 13th December, 1960, by the Minister for Finance that he would modify the 50 year age limit.

As regards retirement the maximum age limit for temporary employees is 75 years. There has been no recent change in this position.
