Vol. 206 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathmines and Crumlin (Dublin) Garda Stations.

53.

asked the Minister for Justice the present position with regard to the proposed new Garda stations at (1) Rathmines and (2) Crumlin village, Dublin.

In reply to a previous question concerning the new station for Rathmines Garda sub-district, I stated that it was proposed to erect the new premises on a site at Lissonfield House. Since then, I have given the matter further consideration and I now feel that such siting could aggravate the present traffic congestion problems in this particular part of Rathmines and might also, by reason of its distance from the main shopping centre, lead to less efficient police supervision of the area. Accordingly, I do not propose to go ahead with the project until I am satisfied from the fresh inquiries which are being made, that a more suitably located site is not available.

In the case of the new District Headquarters station at Crumlin, the position is that the building operations are now well advanced and are expected to be completed by November, 1964.
