Vol. 206 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youth Welfare Work.

55.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange, if necessary, by the introduction of legislation, to provide financial support to youth clubs for the promotion of youth welfare work, having regard to the social utility of such work, its effect in preventing delinquency and the need for its expansion which is hindered by lack of funds.

Juvenile delinquency is one of the matters to which the inter-Departmental Committee on Crime Prevention, which I set up last year, has been asked to give particular attention. I have no doubt that in their examination of the many aspects of this problem the committee will have regard to the effects on delinquent behaviour of the various types of youth welfare work, including youth clubs.
